The Behavioral Health Science Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg has an Adult Behavioral Health Unit (LVHN Alternatives Partial Program) and an Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit. Both are short-term care units with treatment programs designed to help stabilize adults and adolescents (ages 12 to 18) in severe acute crisis and return them to a less-intensive level of care. The average length of stay is about one week.

The care team includes psychiatrists, medical doctors, certified registered nurse practitioners, psychiatric case managers, and psychiatric rehabilitation services staff.
